With "Ballad of the Moondog," The Beat Generation carries a love story that distance couldn’t...

The "Ballad of the Moondog (Remastered)" has the emotional weight of a love story told through separation, but it's set in a warm, wide-open folk-rock musical environment that frames the story well. Originally written by guitarist Miklos Frirsz, this track is given a lush, powerful remaster by vocalist and producer Lawrence White, which gives new presence to its central feeling.

The theme of lovers separated by borders lends the song a special poignancy of distance. The emotional heart of the story is the simple fact that people are kept apart, a reality that remains very relevant today. The arrangement also includes several unique musical contributions. The backing vocals of Alessia Turcato add so much dynamics and help to expand the emotional character of the song.

Larry Salzman's percussion hits with precision, and Adeoti Samuel's piano lends depth and character to the arrangement. And Mason Rosenfeld's drumming is the steady heartbeat that keeps the whole thing together. "Ballad of the Moondog (Remastered)" offers a fresh, compelling folk-rock spin on the story of separated lovers. The result is a new look, but the song's message remains the same.
