Charlie Cope's new song "When The Wheels Touch The Ground" looks beyond the freedom and adventure to explore what happens when constant movement starts to feel like another kind of home. Built around the experience of touring, the song charts Charlie's exhaustion, uncertainty, and the emotional weight of being constantly away from home.
Charlie has spent most of his life on the road, looking for a place and a person that feels like home. A compelling push and pull drives "When The Wheels Touch The Ground," and Charlie finds himself getting closer to the person he wants to get back, but the thought of actually getting her back is just as scary. It could reopen old wounds and pull them back into the same cycle they created together.
The uncertainty gives the song its human touch. Charlie isn't just running to someone, but to a version of himself he may have been trying to escape. The road ends in submission, and Charlie walks home, back toward his past. "When The Wheels Touch The Ground" is a genuine look at the hard truth of moving forward when some part of you is still looking back.
